An engine needs 3 things to run, fuel, air and a source of ignition. Seems like you have fuel and feel you have compression, so check the spark, one a slightly sooty spark plug gets wetted with fuel, it allows the spark to bleed off to ground rather than jump across the electrodes. Cleaning or changing the plug usually solves the problem. Changing the plug on the Savage requires removing the seat and gas tank so you can get to the plug. I'd put a new one in and try starting it with the fuel left in the carburetor bowl, if it runs, put it back together and be on your way. If not, you now have access to the plug to trouble shoot the ignition system. Happy wrenching, Max
